A great game system that I have discovered in the past years is the Weltkrieg
system by SPW Games. The Weltkrieg system is going to cover all 20th
Century conflict in Europe and the Middle East at the division and regimental
level. The system itself is clean and refreshingly straightforward,
without being simplistic. So far the system has only covered the First
World War, but the maps will be the same for all the games. The maps are
incredible, with each hex divided into six sections (like pie slices) so that a
level of detail is available that is amazing for a game of this scale. The
games that have been published so far are... (descriptions are mine)
The Schlieffen Plan (the opening moves in the west)
Tannenberg: Eagles in the East (a tough row to hoe for the Germans...)
Galicia: The Forgotten Cauldron (Russians and Austro-Hungarians whuppin on
each other)
Serbia: The Defiant (Austria-Hungary trying to crush the Serbs)
Romania: The Transylvanian Gambit (Rumania's poorly timed declaration of war
on the Triple Alliance)
Gorlice-Tarnow: The Crushing Blow (Russians and Austro-Hungarians whuppin on
each other later in the war)
Brusilov: Russia's Last Chance (Russia's last gasp...)
Italy 1915-17 (this is due out this year [2002])
Here are some rules that the designer posted on ConSimWorld that limit cavalry's unrealistically free-wheeling raiding abilities. There are also some rules for divisional reserves which seem kinda cool. Now we need a good command & control houserule...
There is quite a bit of discussion going on at Consimworld in the World War One folder, down near the bottom of the list.

Here is a set of counters I made up for the game to replace the (kinda boring) ones that came with the original.

Here are a collection of variants and articles about the game
copied from several different wargame magazines.
