The Grand Duchy of Twillingham
History

"[The Land]... is a sparkling emerald, which by divine providence must needs be added to the Emperor's jewels. With the will of almighty Atton, and the strength of the Emperor, it shall be."

- From the Chronomicon, the official recorded history of the Estonti Empire.

"They came in numbers like the stars to take our land from us. We fought then, as we fight now, as we will fight in times to come."

- From Tin-tan-ta, the oldest living Chenowee shaman.

For centuries, the Chenowee people lived in the fertile plains of Sensivinae, herding their bison. Clans would fight amongst themselves for the right to stay in a given area, or for a certain herd of bison. However, it was a time of relative peace.

Unbeknownst to the Chenowee, the nearby Estonti Empire had noticed the Chenowee lands. Small scouting parties travelled many leagues to the lands of the Chenowee, and returned with stories of fertile plains, lush forests, and cool, clear rives and lakes. Upon hearing these wonderful stories, the Emperor immediatley arranged for a colonization attempt.

The Kingsmen (a bastardization of the Chenowee word for Emperor) arrived by boat from the ocean, they arrived by foot from across the great desert. They cut down the forests, they cleared the plains. They built large cities with large temples to thier god. They enslaved or murdered the native Chenowee "savages". The time of peace had ended for the Chenowee.

Great battles were fought, and many men died. Eventually however, the sheer number of the Kingsmen began to take a toll upon the Chenowee, and one-by-one the Chenowee clans surrendered to the onslaught of the Kingsmen.

It has not been an easy victory for the Kingsmen. The Chenowee rarely, if ever, willingly submit to Kingsman law. Nor will they recognize the Kingsman royalty as thier sovereign lords. And woe be to the poorly gaurded Kingsmen caravan that crosses the Chenowee plains. In addition, families of Endraté have been discovered in the forests surrounding the Chenowee plains.

In order to help keep the Chenowee in line, the Kingsmen have instituted the policy of "fili-capi". Under the auspices of this policy, the Kingsmen take the first born child to each mated pair of Chenowee and raise it as if it were a Kingsman youth. The child is taught nothing of his or her true heritage.

The Endraté threat is still pending, and is being met with force of arms.
